Straw That Purifies Drinking Water as You Sip

When I first saw this video I thought "yeah right".  Then I kept watching and thought this is a wonder, lifesaving invention!  Countries who struggle with clean water sources, and those involved in crises such as Flint, Michigan would surely benefit.  Also, it would benefit outdoor travelers and hikers.  On the downside, it is so innovative and different that people remain hesitant to buy.  It has yet to gain trust among consumers!  Well let me help you with that, let's dive right into it.

According to their website, the LifeStraw:

>Removes 99.9999% of waterborne bacteria, including E. coli and salmonella
>Removes 99.9% waterborne protozoa, including Giardia and Cryptosporidium
>They also list a PDF of the LifeStraw's lab results.  You can find them by clicking here.

Interestingly enough, the LifeStraw does not have a filter system in which you can change and buy a new filter.  The LifeStraw will stop working, then you'd have to buy another one.  Hold up wait a minute!  So does that mean you will possibly sip dirty water?  According to their website:

"The flow rate of your LifeStraw will decrease, and then stop pulling water through once it reaches the end of its life. You can increase the lifespan by cleaning the LifeStraw after each use. The great thing is, you can never drink contaminated water from a LifeStraw; when the water stops flowing through it, you know it is time for a new one!"

Ok great!  Well, if I need to buy another one every time it dies, how long does one last?

"The LifeStraw can filter up to 1,000 liters (264 gallons).  This would mean, if you used the LifeStraw every day, for all of your drinking water, it will last for approximately one year. If you just use it for travel and outdoor activities, it will last much longer than 1 year."

That's pretty darn good!  So the golden question is, how much?  It is listed at $19.95 with two-day shipping available.  That's perfect for those who need to use it every day, and the organization who can distribute the LifeStraw to those in need in bulk.  Only $20 per year!

They sell other products on their website such as water bottles, and an upgraded steel version of LifeStraw.  You can also buy it on Amazon by clicking below.  So would you try it?

  1. I like the idea behind this straw, although I am not entirely sure it can kill 99,9% of all bacteria from any water source.
But just thinking how useful this invention can be, especially in countries in the world where people have access only to dirty and contaminated water, is unbelievable.
Is one straw only for personal use or one family can use one straw and then replace it?
I would like to know more about this straw and will come back to your site.
    Thank you.

  2. This is certainly an invention that will benefit a lot of people who are struggling with finding a clean water source. People in poor areas of the world would surely appreciate this product.

I think it may also be useful for the rest of us who love going to outdoor adventures. You said it will last for a good one year, which actually makes them a great long term investment, considering the affordable price.

    Great review!

  7. Wow, what an awesome gadget for backpackers and trekking! Finding clean water has always been my concern when hiking in the middle of nowhere... It seems to be an amazing solution to traveling in third world countries, but I also wonder if it is possible that it kills 99% of the bacteria... Can anyone tell me how this thingy works exactly? I guess I'm getting one for my next trip!

  8. Wow, what an awesome idea! This would be perfect for taking on hikes and for camping, if you needed to drink water that wasn't pure. And like you say, what a lifesaving invention for people in countries where they may not have clean drinking water.

One year of use is pretty good for 20 bucks! This is a must have for so many scenarios. Such a good idea.
